An outfitter's job is to know where the best population of the game you seek is and then put you in the middle of it. Mike is very efficient in doing this by controlling over 600,000 acres of the finest and largest hunting ranches in Coleman County, Callahan County, Taylor County, Mitchell County, Sterling County, McMullen County, Tom Green County, Irion County, Concho County, Crockett County, Kimble County, Schleicher County, Runnels County, Collingsworth County, Brown County, and Cottle County.
Mike and Monica Wyatt, the husband and wife team that own and operate First Shot Outfitters, are hands on and will most likely be personally taking care of your hunting group. Mike's enthusiasm for hunting is refreshing and infectious and his wife Monica's love for cooking compliments the operation perfectly. A management mule deer buck in our area is a mature buck that scores 150 inches or below. Many people might consider a buck this size to be a trophy, and in our opinion, any mature mule deer buck is. By following intensive management practices and only harvesting bucks that are 6 years or older, we have been able to see incredible growth in our mule deer population that allows us to offer management hunts for bucks of this calibre.

Whether you’re a seasoned bird hunter or new to the sport, there’s nothing quite like an action filled day of Texas quail hunting. Guest will arrive after 5PM on the evening before their first days hunt and supper will be served later that evening. The next morning you will have breakfast and head out for the quail hunt as the sun is rising. Around Noon you will break and head back to the lodge for lunch and a bit of relaxation. Typically, these are older bucks that gross score less than 130 inches. On our ranches, we hold true to that standard and most management bucks hunted with us will be mature deer that are in the 115-129" size range. Although this is what is considered to be a management buck in Texas, some hunters from states with far smaller buck potential or less hunting opportunity consider this size range to be a trophy buck in their book!
