Updates This Week: We Added A Nice Variety of Outfitters and Hunts in Hawaii

This week the HGP team added 7 Hawaii outfitters to the platform along with a combined 29 hunts from those outfitters. These excursions span all of the major Hawaiian islands including The Big Island, Kaua'i, O'ahu, Moloka'i, and Maui. Hawaii is an incredible hunting location, offering free-range hunts for Axis Deer, Wild Hawaiian Boars (Hogs), Rio Grande Wild Turkey, Feral Sheep & Goats, Blackbuck Antelope, and (very interestingly) Feral Bovine also known as Vancouver Bulls.

Why Hawaii Hunts Are Worth A Look:

The first thing to note about Hawaii guided hunts is that they are set in unmatched terrain. There is no other place in the United States where your hunt takes you onto volcanic rock, steep hills, jungles, and high tropical grasses. These hunts offer you a very different way to see the countryside of Hawaii.

Second, Hawaii hunts make for a great add-on to a family vacation. Most of these are day hunts with high success rates. So for people looking to find a break from the beaches and restaurants, a guided hunt has the answer.

Third, Hawaii is one of the only places offering free range exotics. Specifically, this is a fantastic place to find wild Axis Deer. Texas and Florida offer Axis Deer hunts, but they are usually in a high-fence setting. These populations run wild on the islands in massive herds. According to the United States Geological Service, "Axis deer were brought to the Hawaiian Islands from India in late 1867 as a gift to King Kamehameha V and released on Moloka´i in 1868." From there, the deer spread to other islands, except the Big Island, which still doesn't have Axis Deer. Other species such as wild hogs, Mouflon sheep, Spanish Goats, and Vancouver bulls were originally brought by European and Polynesian visitors as domesticated animals before they ended up feral in the mountains. Today, they are wary animals and a real challenge to hunt. Hawaii is a unique opportunity to hunt these species in a free range setting.
