DL Elk Outfitters Inc. was established in 1983 because of my love for hunting and the great outdoors. Here in Montana we hunt primarily Rocky Mountain Elk, Mule and Whitetail Deer and Antelope. Now we have been in business in Montana continually for going on 40 years. Like all successful businesses, DL Elk continued to grow in itself over the years. In 1995 DL Elk, a Montana Elk Outfitting Business, purchased Pelly Lake Wilderness Outfitters in northern British Columbia, Canada. Pelly Lake added many species to our hunting list including Stone Sheep, Canadian Moose, Mountain Goat, Caribou and Black Bear. At this time, my son, Denny, joined me as a full time partner to run the two operations. All our camps are very hunter friendly with cabins, cooks and a pleasant staff to give you a very enjoyable experience for whatever species is on your list. We are proud or our very high return rate of our clientele demonstrating client approval rating for our services.

This is a unique hunt on private land where hunts are conducted out of 4x4 trucks, making it feasible for elderly folks or those with difficulty walking. We have been operating out of our Candy Dan Camp for over 25 years. Constructed on the private ranch we hunt, located some 65 miles south of Great Falls, our base camp consists of a newly constructed cook house built in 2013, equipped with a full kitchen, buffet table, couches, hot and cold water, and a custom dining table for up to 12 hunters, three cabins for sleeping quarters for the hunters, a sauna house, and sleeping quarters for the guides. Camp is equipped with propane heat, electricity in all cabins, full shower/sauna, and WIFI! DL Elk Outfitters conducts guided rifle elk hunts on over 70,000 private acres in the Big Belt Mountains in central Montana. These private lands are home to some of Montana’s largest resident elk herds. We are not dependent on migrations or heavy snows to push the elk out of areas we cannot hunt, giving our hunters a high chance of success. The country is rich in large grass meadows for feed to ridges and draws of timber, making excellent habitat. Elk hunters access the hunting areas by 4-wheel drive vehicles and hiking to vantage spots and glassing for bull elk. (No horses or pack strings here.) Only bull elk with brow tines are legal in our area to harvest and that means 5, 6, and 7 point bulls are the norm here rather than the exception. Elk hunters average glassing more than 100 elk per week on our hunts. Mule Deer and Whitetail Deer are available on all elk hunts and make for a great combo. Our hunting leases, comfortable cabins, elevations under 6500 feet, and 4-wheel drive access make this an area any hunter regardless of age or physical condition can hunt. Our rifle elk hunts are all guided 2 hunters per guide unless prior arrangements are made. Elk and deer licenses are on a draw basis and have to be applied for to the state of Montana by March 15. Draw rates in recent years have been 100%.

The antelope herds are healthy and growing. Trophy bucks in our area average 13-14″ with 15″ a possibility. Antelope hunts are done in the traditional spot and stalk. This hunt is great for kids and families as there is usually lots of action, spotting, stalking, shooting. Come and enjoy a great hunt, view mule deer, whitetail, and elk. Antelope can also be added to our elk hunts we offer in November. Antelope licenses in the state of Montana are on a draw basis; the deadline to apply is June 1.

Here at DL Elk Outfitters, we have been guiding elk hunters for over 25 years on our private leases in central Montana in the Big Belt Mountains. Every year we offer a limited number of guided archery elk hunts in the peak of the rut in September. Our resident elk herds are large and we grow some of the best bulls in the state of Montana. We have exclusive private leases to guide on, we don’t compete with no other hunters or have any wolves to deal with. Our bulls usually are very vocal and respond well to calling. Archers can expect to see and be up close to bull elk on a daily basis. Most of our archery hunts are conducted by locating elk then stalking and calling bulls to within bow range. Archery elk hunters are treated to delicious home cooked meals, comfortable cabins, a sauna house, electricity and WIFI! Our Montana guided archery elk hunts are 5 1/2 days in length with two hunters per guide ratio and a maximum of 4 hunters a week, giving all hunters lots of area to hunt.
